MULT-FILM ALBUM CAMPAIGN
prepared by
Josh Emerick & Ross Theisen

HI tmp TEAM,
Our main objective is to build a project that supports the upcoming album release, strengthening The Modern Prey's visual identity. This multi-film support campaign is designed to create several touch-points through content creation, legitimize what already is in place, and have more engagement opportunities. The strategy is tactical and practical, building within a budget, yet keeping consistency in mind, not in a body of content to release and that content having harmony and cohesiveness.
OVERVIEW
We’ve built a proposal with three options, so you can best decide how JECP and TMP start a relationship together. Each option is designed for Run to be the lead project and fuller options, including song of choice and supporting Visual aides for the other tracks through visualizer (stream videos). We have the project focused on the art direction and visual styles to start with Run and then to borrow and build from this film, so the visuals with this album match and appear TMP to have hired a team of art directors. This approach will help long-term and short-term, encouraging your audience to perceive each piece of content as on-brand.
An idea to keep close to mind is that it's better to build a bridge than an island. The island may be exciting and flashy; however, is it sustainable or on-brand. Keeping budget in mind and future endeavors, we want to play into strong production practices, like lighting, movement, and set design to add production value while reducing overhead costs. This will let us engage in a fuller project and set you guys up for continued work without taking a step backward in quality.

In terms of Creative, the focus will be creating characters and environments that look interesting and professional, allowing us to focus on the most important marketing piece, the band, but giving some life and meaning with simple ideas that can be more openly interpreted. The biggest obstacle in establishing a project is focusing on the important pieces, and for us, it comes back to the band and makes the faces familiar for the fan-base.

CREATIVE
RUN
This will be our primary focus for the full album campaign and all proposals. This film we will bring a fire element to the band with an outdoor performance, with a more professional band arrangement and high-energy band shots. The balance will be about a 50/50 ratio of the band to the story.

We want to bring to life two characters for the story and go more in symbolism than literal. We see a character trying to run from his problems in a wooded setting, dressed in older-style clothing to feel less modern. At some point, we want to see the character fall/trip and land into a void, symbolizing his mind/thoughts. Here we will introduce a female character who feels innocent and the man facing the fears. The female character will extend vines from herself to latch onto the lead (attachment). The character breaks free and re-enters the real world, feeling set free. This is the baseline creative.

The art-direction focus will be on earth tones and fire, feeling real, until inside the void. Here we want to build a more monochromatic feeling and embrace isolation and a touch of blue. These colors and elements can bridge into the other supportive films easily for cohesiveness.
ADDITIONAL MUSIC VIDEO
The second music video option is a choice for the TMP team, but we are open to adding input. This video's format would fit into a heavier emphasis on band performance, sprinkled with creative b-roll. The goal really is focused on strong band performances, interesting lighting, and a b-roll element that matches the message but doesn't take attention away from the band as a marketing piece.

From an execution standpoint and matching with Run, we would pull inspiration from color to some degree and build lighting to feel like a strong visual trick. We would encourage a track that has a variety of dynamics to mix up that mood in lighting from low to high key and implement in slow motion elements. This would also be a case where we would want the band to have a touch of extra attention to personal art-direction, potentially though make-up, attire, set design, or a combination of all three, to make this feel like a next-level band performance.

Example: Juggernaut - Dressing in worn clothes, holes, make-up under eyes to seem worn down, distressed hair and maybe playing into some wires or something attached to you as you play, so it feels like you guys aren't in control/something is pulling the life force from you. This requires some theatrics from yourselves but adds that pro-layer.
VISUALIZER/STREAMS + PROMOS
In addition to the main music videos, we have PROPOSAL ONE designed to achieve a full campaign for TMP with added promos session and matching visualizer (2) from the MV sets to add content to the full album cycle.
Our general thoughts are to build a visualizer based on the witch character in juggernaut to match with Whispers as the visualizer and then to borrow the earth elements like the vines and the things from the wondering character in Run and to craft into a visualizer for Evolution and bring in some element of eyes being covered (blind to problems). These are general ideas we have hashed, but are open to feedback and refinement depending on which package makes the most sense for The Modern Prey brand.

HOW WE DO,
WHAT WE DO
PROCESS
Every project takes a similar approach to create success. The biggest factor is staying clear and transparent in communication. Both parties want a project to work smoothly. We aim to reduce stress and answer questions, so we are in the most creative production mindset. Pre-production requires syncing everyone’s schedules, securing gear, locations, and freelancers, as well as preparing wardrobe, MU, and props. We run a tight ship with to-do’s for all parties and that’s how we deliver such consistent projects and experiences for our clients. Our ask is that clients respect the process and help us gather information and confirm along the way. Let’s make it a win-win scenario.

CAMERA DETAILS
We love camera systems that pack a punch, move the day along with little hesitation and look beautiful. This project has a few variations that we feel the RED Scarlet 5k system will handle best. Being able to switch between 24fps for performances at the standard motion to 48fps for talent and b-roll as well as 120fps for super slow motion all while staying in 4k resolution makes this the camera of choice.
Pairing this with wireless video to the monitor will keep the day moving fast. We're either going to add anamorphic lensing or filtration for the flaring and softness in examples for a top tier cinematic feel.

LIGHTING
We are keeping the lighting kit simple, lightweight, and packaged for travel. This will keep the project moving fast, allow more creative control, and let everyone work comfortably.

SHOOT DAY
We run our sets on a clean and fast time frame. We ask that clients be respectful of the schedule, but understanding that perfection can take time. Work with us, and we will all create the best project. We try to stay on schedule while being open to ideas that can make the project its best.

POST PRODUCTION
Internally we work through our rough cut to a fine cut for clients to fast track a single set of revisions. We can prioritize one piece over the other into a list we work down. 30-60 days turnaround time with one round of revisions. Bills at $100/hr with additional revisions.

Reference of hero shot, wind effect and strong frame, color and energy for talent. Faceless, open ended approach.

Playing into color, earth elements and a witch character to symbolize a toxic relationship, energy being pulled away.

MOOD BOARD
This film showcases a unique arrangement for the band in a circular direction, plus unique circular motion. Not so much the lighting or location, but we would want to bring this vision to TMP for a more pro-looking execution, pairing with woods, fire, and strong lighting for RUN.
This film is a good example of character creation, smart use of color, and focusing on energy to make a high-level music video.

This film references the supportive videos, leaning toward Juggernaut and Whispers to feed into toxic relationships and self-narrative being toxic and not real.

CLIENT NOTE
In taking on this project at a significantly discounted rate, we want to clarify why, deeper than doing a favor. In producing this production, we hope to earn your trust and create a behind the scenes vlog that helps exemplify how simple productions still have moving parts and can be produced high end. So we will be using the BTS as marketing and educational based content.
We are viewing this production as an opportunity to re-invest in JECP’s marketing material over business growth. We will be using the agreed-upon rate to cover the base cost of operations, our freelancer rates, and aid in marketing efforts. Your contribution is in providing us new work and impacting how other artists learn from us and creatives we help grow in the creative community.
The money we are removing from the cost directly impacts reduced crew rates by 17%, Jr Editor for free, Pre-production for free, Post Production finishing for free (associated to PROPOSAL ONE + TWO), leaving hard costs of production and location/rentals non-negotiable items to make this project a reality.

what's next?
review. decide. Sign.
Take some time to look the full proposal over together, ask questions, and on our next call, we can dig into the nitty-gritty. We can decide which option suits you best and draw up the invoice, contract, and other paperwork needed to make it official during this call.

Once we have an agreement, we officially enter pre-production, setting dates, securing locations, props, gear, team, and all the small things in between.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns. We're are eager to build something special for the TMP team and hope for one of these sticks!
