MIDNIGHT FILM CAMPAIGN

HI DD TEAM,

Our main objective is to build a project that supports the upcoming marketing plans and more importantly starts building trust and a healthy relationship between JECP and Dying Desolation. After our conversation, we're excited about not only the relationship and the vision, but the marketing potential we could create around environmental action and a theme of "time's Up" for this next chapter of Dying Desolation.

The proposals below are in two camps. The top two are derived from our vision and typical approach to productions giving you a full JECP experience and the third is executing as a production company to support the original vision Gabe and Jordan brought our way, simply making it a possibility with our production support. Please review, gather questions, and after revision let's book a call to discuss which option feels best for DD's upcoming video marketing efforts!

OVERVIEW

Our goal with this music video proposal is to make a visually interesting, yet logistically simple and cost-effective music video, that remains on-brand with Dying Desolation.  While we want to make a video that feels steps above previous projects, our main hope would be to establish a new universe to support upcoming tracks and be a film you could borrow creative elements from set, attire, color theory, or other art direction to craft other films that make the full album feel cohesive and in a sustainable budgeted way.

The options priced out are for a few different working efforts. Review with any questions!

Proposal 1 - This proposal covers a production heavy music video with a larger crew, more moving pieces, and a full support on talent, wardrobe, production, and post with a traditional deliverable package (1 MV, 3 Teasers, Stills, BTS Photo and Video & GIFs)

Proposal 2 - This proposal covers a lite music video with a simple crew to support a more performance heavy video with lite b-roll to create a cinematic and cost-effective video and with a lite deliverable package (1 MV & 1 Teasers)

Proposal 3 - This proposal is a video production-only service agreement, covering production with Gabe Directing the vision, coordinating logistics, and us simply executing what's provided to us. Deliverables include the final MV. (We aren't liable for coordination mishaps or other pieces outside of our control).

CREATIVE

MIDNIGHT CREATIVE OVERVIEW + FUTURE PROOFING

From our call we want to craft a film and set up future story proofing supporting DD's emphasis on the environmental risks and enviable end of times. We are seeking symbolism around a few words: Decay, End, Time, Truth, Connection.

Decay

On the obvious side, we want to find things in the film that have grit, dust, use,d and a feeling of post-apocalyptic elements. For us, it's important the viewer feels like they are witnessing a path we are going down and to face the truth.

End

Rather than building to the end, we feel we should start here, pushing a stronger idea with less optimism and more action required to make an actual change and force action and conviction. One way we see this is by using time and place to create strong emotional feelings for the viewer.

Time

Not only for Midnight but also in general time feels like a strong character in symbolism. Utilizing clocks feels creative and absolute for a viewer. From set design and story telling using clocks can push this idea further. One way to create optimism in this video would be to open with a clock at Midnight and close with a close at 11:55 to showtime isn't linear and there is hope, but this is what life could be if things don't change. setting the stage this way, for future videos clocks or time elements could help support long-term efforts.

Truth

This is a less obvious element but showing real scenarios of fear, human connection, hope, and emotion is how we see bridging truth and an emotional response towards action. The characters and video should feel real and a goal for us is to make that feeling come to life through all the pieces.

Connection

Our main focus is how important it is to use our time left to connect with one another and to maximize quality time. From a story standpoint, we want to go a mixture of uplifting and dark. The main story being a group of characters, much like the storyline of Red Dawn, following a group trying to survive a post-apocalyptic world, overrun by militias. We will follow a group that slowly gets stripped away, with one main character as the lead who makes it away. In addition, we want to go inside his mind and showcase various people to broaden the emotional response for a viewer.

STORY

At the largest scale, we see a storyline following a group wandering the woods/paths hiding and being captured by another violent group, meshed with the lead characters memories of old characters in his life and sprinkled with band shots in a set and attire that matches these post-apocalyptic vibes and using clocks as set pieces and meshing color theory.

Our simplified story follows the band in a heavy performance and one character who is dealing with losing the ones closest to him. This striped version would be all in-studio and a single day of production to manage the creative and reduce the budget.

CHARACTERS

The storyline characters would be in ragged, dingy attire showing the effects of the new world. The band would wear similar attire to add production value and symbolism to the band shots, making them pro-level and elevating this video above previous DD music videos. The secondary void characters would feel modern-day to showcase the past and what we have right now and how important it is we take care of the world we have.

BAND SHOTS

We want to build a set or arrange the studio with various clocks to create a surreal feeling showing a disconnect between where we are vs where we are going and using time for obvious reasons. This can be refined as we lock in final details. The band should feel like characters from the post-apocalyptic world, time should be a key player and we make intentional decisions to make a bigger story and world for these next releases.

COLOR THEORY

We will go more muted in color, but give extra punch to orange, red, purple, and blue to match upcoming art and set the stage for color choices in this album and future videos. The storyline will live more in the cooler family, while flashbacks can have a warm glow and the band will have a pick of both with two varied sets to juxtapose both color pallets and bridge the gap between it all.

HOW WE DO,

WHAT WE DO

PROCESS

Every project takes a similar approach to create success. The biggest factor is staying clear and transparent in communication. Both parties want a project to work smoothly. We aim to reduce stress and answer questions, so we are in the most creative production mindset. Pre-production requires syncing everyone’s schedules, securing gear, locations, and freelancers, as well as preparing wardrobe, MU, and props. We run a tight ship with to-do’s for all parties and that’s how we deliver such consistent projects and experiences for our clients. Our ask is that clients respect the process and help us gather information and confirm along the way.  Let’s make it a win-win scenario.

CAMERA DETAILS

We love camera systems that pack a punch, move the day along with little hesitation and look beautiful. This project has a few variations that we feel the RED Scarlet 5k system will handle best. Being able to switch between 24fps for performances at the standard motion to 48fps for talent and b-roll as well as 120fps for super slow motion all while staying in 4k resolution makes this the camera of choice.

Pairing this with wireless video to the monitor will keep the day moving fast. We're either going to add anamorphic lensing or filtration for the flaring and softness in examples for a top tier cinematic feel.

LIGHTING

We are keeping the lighting kit simple, lightweight, and packaged for travel. This will keep the project moving fast, allow more creative control, and let everyone work comfortably.

SHOOT DAY

We run our sets on a clean and fast time frame. We ask that clients be respectful of the schedule, but understanding that perfection can take time. Work with us, and we will all create the best project. We try to stay on schedule while being open to ideas that can make the project its best.

POST PRODUCTION

Internally we work through our rough cut to a fine cut for clients to fast track a single set of revisions. We can prioritize one piece over the other into a list we work down. 30-60 days turnaround time with one round of revisions. Bills at $100/hr with additional revisions.

CLIENT NOTE

In taking on this project at a discounted rate, we want to clarify why, deeper than doing a favor. In producing this production, we hope to earn your trust and create a behind-the-scenes vlog that helps exemplify how simple productions still have moving parts and can be produced high end. So we will be using the BTS as marketing and educational-based content.

We are viewing this production as an opportunity to re-invest in JECP’s marketing material over business growth. We will be using the agreed-upon rate to cover the base cost of operations, our freelancer rates, and aid in marketing efforts. Your contribution is in providing us new work and impacting how other artists learn from us and creatives we help grow in the creative community.

The money we are removing from the cost directly impacts reduced crew rates by 17%, Jr Editor for free, Pre-production for free, Post Production finishing for free (associated to PROPOSAL ONE & TWO), leaving hard costs of production and location/rentals non-negotiable items to make this project a reality.
